Project 1: Communicating Brains and Cultures

When people interact, information is transmitted between their brains. Modern imaging techniques permit to investigate the dynamics of this brain-to-brain transfer of information. Our previous data support current theories of intersubjectivity by providing direct evidence that during ongoing facial communication a 'shared space of affect' is successively built up between senders and perceivers. Here, we propose to extend this previous work in both neurology and anthropology.

In three related fields we will examine the theoretical foundations and the ethical implications of current neurobiological research on aggression. We expect to increase insight in social preconditions and neuroethical as well as practical implications of neurobiological research on determinants of aggressive human behaviour.
