The Influence of Advice on Decision Making

People seek and receive advice quite often in our society. In fact, billions of dollars change hands every year to receive advice, whether it consists of guidance on corporate strategy from a top consulting firm, or personal counsel from a clinical psychologist. However, very little is understood about the cognitive neuroscience of decision making while integrating information from an advisor. Thus, this project aims to use functional neuroimaging to elucidate the cognitive processes underlying the influence of advice on decision making, with the end goal being the improvement of advice utilization in our society.
